Dr Tinnel was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He spent most of his childhood in a small town in Eastern Washington, where he graduated from Wilbur High School. He then attended undergraduate college at Seattle University on an Army ROTC scholarship and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon graduation from SU, he was commissioned as an Army Officer and was selected for ‘Education Delay’ to attend medical school. He opted to attend the military medical school (Uniformed Service University in Bethesda, MD) where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Honor Society.
Near the end of medical school, he married his college sweetheart and fellow Army officer and Registered Nurse, Nicole, who was stationed in Germany. They both moved back to the Norhtwest when assigned to Madigan Army Medical Center for Dr Tinnel’s Pediatric Internship. After rotating as a medical student at Madigan, he then decided to switch from Pediatrics (with a plan to be a Peds Oncologist) to Radiation Oncology and was selected for residency at Indiana University Radiation Oncology. Upon completion of residency, their family moved to Washington DC to be on staff at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After four years, they were happily reassigned back to Madigan Army Medical Center where Dr Tinnel served for 10 years until his military retirement in 2021. Dr Tinnel worked at Capital Medical Center for Tacoma Valley Radiation Oncology Centers until happily joining RadiantCare Physicians.
Brent and Nicole have three children (one just graduated from college, the second is in college, the youngest is in high school), and one very cute but rambunctious labrador retriever. Dr Tinnel enjoys running throughout the year and loves snowboarding with the family in the winter. He’s always been a loyal supporter of the PNW professional/college sport teams and is especially a Seahawks and Mariners fanatic. Dr Tinnel loves all types of arts, especially live music, and has even been known to attempt playing the guitar from time to time. The Tinnel family has grown deep roots in ‘the South Sound’ and feel blessed to continue calling this beautiful place their home.
